Negotiators from the school board and Cass Lake Education Association (CLEA) met on May 8 to resume contract discussions. A tentative agreement was reached that includes the following changes to the master contract:
Salary increases of 4.66 year 1 and 4% year 2. Starting salary for an entry level teacher would be $50,000 Year one and $52,000 year two. Salary for a teacher with a master's degree + 20 additional master's level credits on the top step would be $84,440 year one and $87,817 year 2 of the contract.
Subbing - teachers who sub on their prep or take the whole class of another teacher will be paid their daily rate of pay x 2 prorated to the actual hours they have the entire class of another teacher. (current practice).
Teachers who take a portion of another teacher’s class will be paid at the staff development rate per hour ($35).
All other previously negotiated tentative agreements under the master contract were continued.
Extra Curricular Contract:
Coach increases are the same percentage as teacher increases retro-active
Reclassified robotics coaching - 1 head coach at level 4; Assistant robotics coaches at Level 5 (number hired dependent on student participation) reflecting feedback from robotics coaches
Reestablishing Varsity Girls Golf and Varsity Boys Golf positions at Level 1 and 2 assistant golf coaches at Level 3, depending upon numbers of students involved
with the intent to grow both girls and boys golf participation
Renaming the JV Softball coach to “Assistant Softball Coach”
New coaching positions and levels effective the 2024-25 school year
Revised game worker stipends - Event workers for all but football to be paid $35/event with a cap of $80/night
Football event workers $50 per night
Weight Room Attendant $50/night
Agreements regarding pay for coaches who also drive their teams to games using school buses or vans.
CLEA members will vote on the contract offer in the upcoming week and if accepted, the school board will be asked to vote on the contract at the May regular board meeting.
